KASHIN (Retainers)
These are the Zaidanese equivalent of Samurai. They can only be raised with the permission of the province ruler with the following exception: Each level of Manor held by a noble clan can raise one Kashin unit without requiring the province ruler’s permission.
Kishi (Knights)
Men in Medium armour mounted on heavy warhorses armed with nagimaki.
Kihei (Cavalry)
Men in improved light armour mounted on medium horses armed with katana and daikyu.
Goei (Guard)
Men in heavy armour armed with katana and daikyu.
Hohei (Infantry)
Men in the heaviest armour armed with naginata.
Kenshi (Swordsmen)
Men in heavy armour armed with either two katana or no-dachi
TEMPLE TROOPS
These troops can only be raised by temple domains; Shrine Maidens can raise Nuns, Spirit Masters can raise Monks. Each level of Manor held by a Temple domain can support one unit each of Monks and Nuns. Permission of the province ruler is not needed to raise these special units.
Soryota (Warrior Monks)
Fanatic men in heavy armour armed with naginata.
Imata (Warrior Nuns)
Fanatic women in improved light armour armed with nagimaki.
REGULAR TROOPS
Anybody can raise these troop types and all the rules regarding permission of the province lord apply.
Keigo (Escorts)
Men in light armour mounted on light horses armed with nagimaki and daikyu. Used for scouting and flank protection.
Sohei (Spearmen)
Men in improved medium armour armed with Yari
Ite (Archers)
Men in improved light armour armed with daik-yu
LEVY
These units follow all the rules regarding raising Levies. When using the raise levy action for the first time in a province during a calendar year, the ruler will get skilled Shobo units. The second time he gets green Shobo and the third (and later) times all units are green nomin (green).
Shobo (Militia)
Partially trained men in improved light armour armed with Yari.
Nomin (Peasants)
Untrained men in light armour armed with farm implements and other improvised weapons.
