Namahe no Seiso
Ancient Clan lore tells of the Namahe no Seiso, when the ancestors of the Abe roamed the rolling plains of what was later to become Nansei-Do. When the Danatsu no Seiso arrived in the form of the Oppressors the families fought hard for their lands but as many others were subjugated as they tried to stand alone.
Gokai Taisan
At the start of the Gokai Taisan the disparate Abe families were united into the clan they are now by the great Abe Taiso. As the fires of rebellion lit across Zaidan it was he who in a daring attack with a few trusted retainers struck down the Akuna no Bokun ruling Iwate. In so doing he put his family into a position where being idle no longer posed a possibility. It is said Abe Taiso only achieved this first feat with the help of Ryuoka the two-voiced, the great river dragon of Iwate. The great dragon was impressed by Taiso as, when asked "would he sacrifice for his people?" Taiso answered "my voice itself" and granted it thus to Ryuoka. No one has seen this mystical creature in hundreds of years, but it is rumoured he makes his lair in Iwate still. Taiso personally gathered the families and lesser Clans to the Abe and faced down the Hakugai-sha sent to destroy them with a defiance which resounds in the Abe blood to this day.
Sheinaru Miko no Zaii
During the Sheinaru Miko no Zaii the Abe clan asserted its rule over the plains of Nansei-Do, and the what is now the province of Tsubame. Their war skills leading to the, to this day, extremely popular summer games in the art of archery. When the Sogo were overthrown during the Funso no Toshi the Abe held back and did not participate what they considered the unholy attempts at seizing power. As such they were the first clan approached by Hashimoto Oda and a central force in his popular revolt.
Kashikoi no Gikai no Tochi and beyond
In the Kashikoi no Gikai no Tochi they supported the Mori in instituting the Wise Council, after aiding in the destruction of the Daikomon under the by then corrupt Tanaka Manabu.
Again after it became obvious the Wise Council was merely a political tool, the Abe clan in its wisdom started a coup d’état with the Sheinaru Miko at its head. The intent, restoring the Sheinaru Miko no Zaii.
However during the the struggle it became clear the Sheinaru Miko was nothing more than a tool of the traitorous Ikeda. With sufficient clans shown the light after significant struggle the Abe managed to defeat the Ikeda. However this left them in the position of power. Subsequent Abe Lords tried to renew the Sheinaru Miko no Zaii yet were blocked by the Ogawa and Oshiro clans, to their great frustration. This situation came to a head when these clans intent became clear as they instituted a rebellion and divided the realm between them.
For many a year the Abe have been holding on to their ancestral lands with the great defiance known to them since times immemorial. In recent times times, after the Ikeda took Tsubame from them, they made a pact with the Watanabe clan. They have not however forgotten their ascendancy.
Current
Abe Kozo, the grandfather of the current ruling lord, was present in the Year of the White Heart for the signing of the peace. Indeed, he was a main proponent of peace in the court of the Watanabe. He constitutes the only ruling lord of the Abe to die in peace and of ripe old age in a century. He is however also the person behind turning the great archery traditions of the region into the main weapon of the Abe army.
His son, Abe Yoshihiro, did not believe that the peace would hold and instituted a further and continues preparation of the Abe forces. His trepidation indeed seemed founded as in the year of 946 he and his household were ambushed by unmarked yet professional troops while traveling from on a tour of the Atosaki shrines. After a two hour fight, holding out in a way shrine, with almost all Abe Kashin dead it seemed certain all was lost. Not willing his head be taken he committed seppuku while his brother and oldest cousin died holding back the advancing assailants.
The youngest cousin, Abe Takeru, however was ordered to make all haste to the monastery where the heir to the clan was in contemplation. Through great heroism Takeru managed to reach Abe Taiyou. Later they discovered the assailants were in fact Amoihito in service of the Uheida, a minor clan in Kisosaki. For their treachery all Uheida of age were allowed seppuku, the others banished and the clan disbanded with the complete destruction of their holdings. However it has always been suspected the Uheida were only tools of another in this.
The young Abe Taiyou, who had always contemplated a life of study, was trust into rulership on the age of 19. He has however shown remarkable capability and insight in the variety of his duties. Indeed, he is well known to actively take part in all parts of his domain.
