This being an oriental setting, there are of course dragons. It can be assumed that there is some tale or legend of a dragon associated with every major river, bay, or high peak, and that every legendary hero is said to have had some sort of encounter with one, either as friend or foe. Whether or not any of these dragons actually exist remains to be seen, while they are common features of legends and local lore, they are not in any way common in daily life, in fact nobody has ever actually seen one in living memory, nor are there any truly reliable records of one ever having been seen, however that dragons do exist is unquestioned by one and all (after all, there are all those legends that speak of them...).
The following four dragons are "known" to exist (and by "known" I mean that their existence is generally accepted across the land in a of "It is known Khaleesi" and everybody knows of somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody whose great grandfather's cousin's brother-in-law actually saw it sort of thing):
1. One, some say 2, living in the depths of the Engokai.
2. One living in the Mizumi Hado in Yamaguchi that is closely associated with the history of the Nishimura clan (they actually claim to have dragon blood).
3. One living under the mountains of Shitara who is claimed to have been the companion of the Yamashita clan's founder.
4. One living around the Ade Retto between Kamijima and the mainland who is said to protect that sacred island.
Note: When writing up clan histories and/or other legends, feel free to stick in a dragon wherever you want, whether or not that creature actually exists, or even if it ever did, doesn't really matter.
