Prior to the Gokai Taisan the Mori did not exist as a people, instead they lived first in freedom, then in oppression. Before rising under the great hero Mori to drive the Oppressors from the land and free all people.
Gokai Taisan (Great Heroic Wars)
The Mori, progenitor of the Mori line, was a great hero of the Gokai Taisan. Here the deep ties that the Mori have with Yamaki begin. It is said that a great Akuna no Bokun, the Seven-Headed Hydra plagued the valiant people of Tonaki as they fought to drive out the Oppressors. Striking from the Yanagawa river the beast destroyed villages and armies with equal ease. The great bulk of it's body almost impervious to weapons and whenever a head was struck off as soon as the head struck the ground another sprang into existence.
The great hero Mori, with his companion the Watasumi, the great water dragon Nishikai, heard of this great beast and resolved to slay it. Travelling to Tonaki, Mori, atop the sinuous form of Watasumi came across the Seven-Headed Hydra deep in Tonaki, far from the water where it stood amidst the ruins of a refugee camp toying with the survivors.
Mori struck quickly, hurtling down form the sky and lopped off a head, yet as soon as the head stuck the ground another regrew. Again and again Mori struck heads from the beast and again and again they regrew.
As day passed into night, and then as night passed into day the battle continued. Mori realised that the beast could not be worn down and changed his tactics. Directing Watasumi they flew in and out amongst the beasts snapping jaws, tempting each head in turn to chase them and weaving amongst the heads. Until after hours had passed and the heads had been weaved by the clever flying of Watasumi and the clever plan of Mori into a singlular braid. Then Mori striking down from the sky like lighting from the clouds, struck with a great cleaving blow and severed all seven heads simultaneously.
The seven heads flew skyward, and the great body of the beast staggered backwards like a drunk peasant stumbling in the street. With bated breath Mori waited for the heads to strike the ground, to see if the beast would rise again or if it was finally defeated.
With thunderous crashes that could be heard across the entire region each head struck the ground, driving deep into the earth. The body still staggering backwards remained headless as it finally crashed into earth on the shore of Tonaki, then with a great rumble the ground beneath it crumbled and cracked, dropping into the ocean and taking the beast with it.
In the wake of the beasts passing, water bubbled up from great aquifers rising to the surface where each head had struck the ground, around these seven wells where founded the Sven Towns of Tonaki. Where the body had collapsed on the shoreline and then fallen with the land into the ocean there was now a great bay, called the Tonaki Wan.
