As the winter sun filtered through the high reed screens, touching all the banners and fineries present, a surge of pride went through the Abe Lord.
Playing across the room, here the light touched the Miyamoto colours, there it lit the Takaki Mon, the proud face of Ishikawa Kazuki, in the full finery his office, surrounded by his sons. The Fujiwara, the Ufugusuku, the Ishida, all were represented, their own flights of colours in between the Abe ocher and yellow.
In the minds eye one could see the colours repeated on the streets of Takahata, throughout Iwate province, in the great field camp outside of the ancient Abe keep. All the vassals had answered the call and the city bustled with their retainers.
Pride yes, yet a small stroke of sadness marred the otherwise smiling Abe Taiyou. The sadness that this great a meeting was caused by the greed of such as the Ikeda. Nevertheless, great was the support shown by those loyal to the Abe. And fortunate was Fukuchi in its friends, did the light not touch the Maeda mon there? On the Iida family banner, proudly aside the clan banners as equal. The Watanabe colours shimmered on the representative of his clan, yet it stung the Abe to call on the ties that bound them. And so too were the Mori now underway, responding to the call of their liege lord.
Abe, Ishikawa, Miyamoto, Takaki, Ufugusuku, Fujiwara, Ishida; Fukuchi as one, Maeda, Watanabe, Mori; Nansei-Do together.
Turning the palms of his hands upwards, the room quietened. Abe Taiyou, Lord of Fukuchi, looked at his guests and calmly adressed the gathered clans;
"My honored guests and vassals, soon the Peacebreaker his forces will be in this land, Ikeda colours befouling our fair land. This will be their second and final mistake, for we here gathered shall end their hegonomy. I will take personal command of the Abe forces in this upcoming campaign and force the Ikeda to a battle they will sorely regret.
My lords, we go to war and eternal glory, and we shall be as Hakaimono to our enemies."
Outside, as the words were repeated by the courtiers on the inner battlements, a rising tide spread, voices of thousands of retainers raised in approval.
